The result from the inventory of forest in 1999, Province’s area of forestland is 368,319 ha (391,815 ha in 1992 – decreased by 23,496 ha), wood reserves of 19,508 million cub. m of wood (decreased by 4.47 million cub. m) and 95.6 million bamboo (increased by 70 million plants).
Area of natural forest is 344,385 ha, decreased by 37,084 ha compared with in 1992 (381,469 ha). State based classification shows following situation of forest stock in Binh Thuan:
Broadleaf wood and half shedding wood from 191.3 thousand ha (1992) remains 142,043 ha (1999). Shedding wood from 176 thousand ha (1992) remains 163,241 ha (1999). Coniferous mixed wood dominates and pure bamboo, mixed wood covers 13.9 thousand ha (1992) increases to 32,913 ha (1999). Area of artificial forest throughout the Province in 1999 was 23,934 ha. The prominence is the situation happens in way reducing the area of rich wood, average wood, and increasing bamboo mixed wood. This is a bad tendency due to excess exploitation that degrades the quality of forest stock.
